Hip to be Square
Many of the more common teapot themes are round or roundish shapes. More unusual are teapots that have rectangular shapes. Indeed, we have been trying to find teapots with square edges for inclusion in the gallery for some time. Recently, we did come across the work of an artist that not only fits the bill but also has some nice, unusual features.
We finally tracked him down, and we recently put a square teapot by Zhou Zhi Liang, in our gallery. You can view it at http://www.leonacraig.com/catalogue_art_gallery/Teapots/Teapots_page_6.htm. What makes it even more special is the sliding lid. The lid fits onto the pot as a normal lid would, but the top part of the lid slides back. You can see other picture of this teapot, called "Chou Square" on the link page from the gallery page for the teapot.
As it turns out, he is the student of a famous older artists, Wu Pei Lin who, also makes some unusual teapots. Over the next few weeks we will be looking at inclusion of some of Wu's teapots in our gallery. We also found a second artist who makes square teapots, and we will be looking to include some of his, in the gallery, over the next few weeks.
