Deconstructivism in China

The modern worldwide movements, in art, have also seeped into the art of China, over the past several decades.  During the dark days when China was closed off to the rest of the world, in the mid-twentieth century, such art was not allowed to come into the artists' repertoires.  Yi Xing Ma, one of the current Chinese deconstructionists, tells the story that his art teachers told him that his paintings were stupid and worthless, back in the 1980's.  Now, that China has opened up and he is famous, the same teacher apologized for his comments.

To give you an example of the current deconstructionist art of China, we show one that we rather like: "Shock Fish" by Bo Liang.  You can view some of the works of Yi Xing Ma on our website.
